History of Black Seeds

Black cumin seed (Nigella Sativa) has been in the grave of Tutankhamun, which means that it discovered to play an important role in the practices of ancient Egypt. Although the exact role in Egyptian culture is unknown, we know that products have been chosen carefully buried with a king, to assist in the afterlife.

Nigella sativa has been used for medicinal purposes for centuries both as a herb and pressed into oil in Asia, Middle East and Africa. In Islam, is considered one of the greatest forms of healing medicine available. The Prophet Muhammad once said that the black seed can heal all diseases except death, as reported in the following Hadith:

Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Radiya report) that the Messenger of hearing God's Word: "Black Seed is a cure for every disease except death."

Narrated Khalid bin Sa'd: We went out and Ghalib bin Abjar RA accompanied us. He fell ill on the street and when we arrived in Medina was still sick. Ibn Abi’ Atiq approached him and said," Treat him with black cumin. Take five or seven seeds and crush them and place the mixture into both nostrils”, for Aisha has narrated to me that she heard the Prophet (sallalhu-alaihewasallam) saying, 'This black cumin is healing for all diseases except As-Sam'. Aisha said, 'What is As-Sam?' He said, 'Death' (Bukhari)

Abu Huraira (Radi Allah Anhu) reported that he heard Allah's Messenger as saying: “Black seed is a remedy for every disease except death”.

Ibn Sina / Avicenna, known for his books called the Canon of Medicine, called Nigella sativa seeds, which stimulates your body's energy and helps recovery from fatigue and discouragement. Also included in the list of natural medicines "Tibb al-Nabawi 'or' medicine of the prophet," according to the tradition: "hold onto the use of the black seeds for in it is healing for all diseases except death" (Sahih Bukhari vol. 7 book 71 # 592).

This prophetic reference in describing black seed as a cure for all illnesses is not exaggerated, as it seems at first glance. More recent research has shown that most diseases from an imbalance in the immune system or are unable to meet dysfunctional best represented their primary function of defending the body. The research also indicates that black seed contains a significant ability to stimulate the immune system of humans - if taken overtime.

The prophetic phrase, “hold onto the use of the seed “ also emphasizes consistent usage of the seed. The black seeds were traditionally used in the Far East and the East for centuries to treat diseases such as asthma and bronchitis, rheumatism and inflammatory diseases related to increase milk production in nursing mothers, to treat digestive disorders, support the immune system, stimulate the body's digestion and excretion, and the battle against parasites. The oil was used to treat skin diseases such as eczema and boils and is administered topically to treat cold symptoms. The multiple uses of black seed has earned this herb former Arab Habbat al Barakah , namely the seed of blessing.

Black cumin (Nigella sativa) in accordance with the "seed of blessing" is known as one of the greatest healing herbs of all time. This is an excellent phytotherapuetic medicine (herbal medicine) for thousands of years to treat a variety of health problems of the respiratory tract, skin, gastrointestinal disorders, kidney and liver function, a circulatory and the immune system support and maintain and improve general health. Phytotherapeutic- simply put, consists of the treatment or prevention of ailments and diseases through the usage of plants.


Scientific Research
Have published since 1959, over 200 studies at international universities and articles in various journals shown remarkable results supporting its traditional uses, it recorded nearly 1,400 years. While the Black Seed is highly effective by itself, ongoing studies with combinations of other herbs have produced remarkable results.

Surprisingly, the chemical composition of the black seed is rich and varied. In addition to the main ingredients crystalline nigellone, black seed contains 15 amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, both oils (84% fatty acids, including linolenic and oleic acid), essential oils, alkaloids, saponins and crude fiber and minerals such as calcium, iron, sodium and potassium. There are many components in Black Seed that could not be identified. But the research goes on around the world.

In the first comprehensive study of Nigella sativa on the prevention and treatment of cancer was conducted by researchers Cancer Immuno-Biology Laboratory of Iceland, Hilton Head, South Carolina. They concluded that a healthy immune system identify and destroy cancer cells cancer-risk patients. The immune system this is done through support for the increased production of immune cells in the bone marrow and B cells that produce antibodies. Black Cumin stimulates the activity of neutrophils. They are attracted by short-lived immune cells in the bone marrow normally, but in reality, if a bacterial infection. In vitro studies in Jordan and the United States have determined that the essential oil is anti-leukemia. Studies in Spain and England showed that the oils in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases are useful. This property is due to thymoquinone that is up to 25% in seed from Egypt and is completely absent a few seeds.

Researchers at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia have found that a thymoquinone oil extract of Nigella sativa seeds blocked the growth of pancreatic cancer cells by strengthening the process of dying programmed cell death (apoptosis). While studies are in early stages, the results suggest the possibility that some thymoquinone usefulness as a prevention strategy in patients who might need surgery or chemotherapy, or persons who have undergone cancer at high risk of cancer.
